What is Fort de Tamié

The fort de Tamié watches over the Combe de Savoie and the Albertville gap from the Tamié pass, in the commune of Mercury. Built in 1876 by 600 Italian workers, it commanded the Albertville square. Today the site is free to visit: the Tour du Fort trail, a picnic area and the panorama from its three belvederes, with casemates and caves dug into the rock and several artillery battery positions visible along the paths.

Two paid options sit alongside the free site: an audio-guide for a 2-hour walk through the fort's secrets, and an adventure park set inside the ramparts — 10 treetop courses, nearly 100 obstacles and several zip-lines including a 300-metre one.

On summer opening, the two official sources differ: the Pays d'Albertville tourist office announces daily from 28 June to 31 August, 11:00–19:00; the fort's own site says 'all summer (18 June to 31 August), 7 days a week, 11:00–19:00' — with no year stated. We give both. Pets are allowed.
