What is Musée de l'Ours des Cavernes

In Entremont-le-Vieux, in the Savoie Chartreuse, the musée de l'Ours des Cavernes tells the story of the Ursus spelaeus that occupied the Balme à Collomb cave more than 28,000 years ago.

Prices: €7 per adult, €5 per child aged 6-16 (free under 6), €22 for the family ticket (2 adults + 2 children), €6 and €4 reduced. The ticket office closes an hour before the museum.

The museum opens only in seasonal windows, published for 2026: 7 February – 8 March and 4 April – 30 June, daily 14:00–18:00; 1 July – 31 August, daily 10:00–12:30 and 14:00–18:00; 1 – 30 September and 17 October – 1 November, daily 14:00–18:00; then 19 December 2026 – 3 January 2027, closed on 25 December and 1 January. Between those windows, the museum is closed.
