What is Val d'Isère

Val d'Isère, a Haute-Tarentaise village at 1,850 m, forms with Tignes a linked domain — the former Espace Killy — skiing 'between 1,550 m and over 3,400 m': '300 km of waymarked runs', 161 runs (21 green, 65 blue, 41 red, 32 black) and '71 lifts', including 37 chairlifts, 6 gondolas and 3 cable cars — 11 lifts are open to pedestrians.

On the linked domain's lift count the two resorts do not publish the same figure — '71' per valdisere.com, '74' per tignes.net — and we quote both. Published free things: 'several free lifts' on the snow front for beginners, the Val Bus shuttles running 'winter and summer alike', and the Snake Gliss session 'our snow host lets you discover free of charge'. The village keeps its cultural sidelines too: the Val Histoire museum, the Aquasportif centre, the ice fall.
