What is Cascade de la Vuzelle

The Cascade de la Vuzelle, at Planay in the Bozel valley, drops about 100 metres. 'Classified in 1935' — by ministerial decree of 27 November 1935 — it 'is a remarkable element of the valley's landscape, easily spotted thanks to the three Vuzelle peaks, the highest of which reaches 2,654 metres', writes the tourist office. It is discovered 'downstream, taking the trail from the typical village of Chambéranger'. Animals are accepted.

One piece of current news demands caution, and we give it as it stands: the tourist office's sheet announces a site open 'all year… accessibility depending on weather conditions', but the Planay commune closed, by notice of 1 April 2026, 'the trail linking La Rochette to the Vuzelle waterfall… until further notice', following the winter's avalanches. Only that approach is affected; the office's described access from Chambéranger is not. Check trail conditions before setting out.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the trail open?

Two statements coexist, quoted as they stand: the tourist office announces a site open all year depending on conditions; the Planay commune closed 'until further notice' the La Rochette to waterfall trail (notice of 01/04/2026, after the winter's avalanches). The office's described access from Chambéranger is not affected by that notice.

Why is the waterfall 'classified'?

The site is protected by ministerial decree of 27 November 1935 — one of the valley's oldest landscape protections.

Where is it best seen from?

It is spotted from the valley thanks to the three Vuzelle peaks (2,654 m at the highest) and discovered downstream via the trail from Chambéranger.

Are dogs allowed?

Yes, 'animals accepted' per the tourist office's sheet — the site lies outside the Vanoise national park's core.
