What is Cime Caron Cable Car

The Téléphérique de la Cime Caron starts at 2,320 m and arrives at the summit ridge, below the summit of the same name, above Val Thorens, in the commune of Les Belleville. It is operated by SETAM under a concession from the Syndicat Mixte pour l'aménagement de Les Belleville.

It is a Poma cable car commissioned in January 1983: 866 m of vertical, 2,054 m long, 11 m/s on the line, about five minutes of travel per the BEA-TT report. It is not a new installation. Both cabins were destroyed in the collision of 19 November 2024; they were replaced with Calag Gangloff cabins and the cable car reopened on 22 November 2025. Their exact capacity is not publishable: the manufacturer says 150, the local press up to 124.

The top station altitude is given as 3,193 m by the BEA-TT and 3,186 m by other sources. Note that “Caron 3200” is the commercial name of the arrival building, not an altitude. That 800 m² building over four levels holds a panoramic restaurant, a 260 m² rooftop terrace, a wine bar, a shop and an exhibition room, with 360° views.
