The Lac des Hurtières, at Le Verney in Saint-Alban-d'Hurtières, marries two callings: free, lifeguarded summer swimming from a sandy beach — the water reaches about 25 °C — and a plain classified Natura 2000 since 2002, managed with the Conservatoire d'espaces naturels de Savoie, explored via a discovery path with playful learning posts and a wildlife hide. The 2025 departmental bathing-water rankings rate the site Excellente.
On the exact supervision period, sources from the same network differ, and we report them as they stand: 'every afternoon during the summer season' from 12:00 to 18:00 per maurienne.fr, 'by two lifeguards between 12 and 6 pm every day in July-August' per explore-maurienne.com. The same caution applies to the surface area: the town hall's page mentions 4.5 ha, then 20 ha after enlargement — the second figure perhaps covering the whole site.
Summer for the lifeguarded swimming (12:00 to 18:00) and the Café Gourmand, 'with its terrace and its guinguette spirit', open from mid-May to the end of August. The site stays open all year, free, with a large car park at the entrance. Note: 'our canine friends are not allowed on the beach'. Fishing is possible with the Savoie permit, sold at the tourist office — perch and coarse fish.
