Vanoise Express

The Vanoise Express crosses the Ponturin valley without a single pylon, between Plan-Peisey (1,612 m) and Montchavin (1,548 m), in two double-decker cabins carrying 200 people each. In summer 2026 it runs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays only.

What is Vanoise Express

The Vanoise Express links Plan-Peisey, in the commune of Peisey-Nancroix (1,612 m), to Montchavin, a village of La Plagne Tarentaise (1,548 m). It is the connection between the Les Arcs and La Plagne ski areas, which together form Paradiski. It is operated by SELALP, a Compagnie des Alpes subsidiary.

Built by Pomagalski (POMA) and opened in December 2003, it spans the Ponturin valley — up to 380 m above the valley floor — with no pylon at all, using two independent parallel systems. Each double-decker cabin carries 200 people plus an operator at 12.5 m/s, or 45 km/h. The crossing takes 3 min 50 s per the Peisey-Vallandry tourist office, 4 minutes per other sources.

The thing a summer visitor must know: in 2026 the cable car runs four days a week only — Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday — with a break from 12:45 to 14:00. It is closed on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Adult return €17 in summer 2026, a figure all sources agree on. The adult one-way is given as €11 by the operator's fare PDF and €9 by some tourist listings: the contradiction is unresolved.

Is the Vanoise Express included in a ski pass?

In winter, yes, with a Paradiski pass. It is not included in La Plagne's pedestrian passes. In summer, pedestrians pay per trip.
