The great passes of Savoie: altitudes, openings, access

Open right across since 12 June 2026. Free access on the D902 between Val-d'Isère and Bonneval-sur-Arc. Free parking. The only road crossing inside the Parc national de la Vanoise.

Between the Maurienne and the Oisans on the RD926 and the D526. Opening announced for 20 May 2026 under alternating traffic. Free parking, picnic area, start of the three-lakes walk.

Open since 29 May 2026. Between La Chambre in the Maurienne and La Léchère in the Tarentaise, on the RD 213. Free access. 1,993 m per IGN, 2,000 m on the stele.

Summit road at 2,642 m, tunnel at 2,556 m: two separate openings in 2026, on 29 May and 5 June. Free access from Valloire. Cyclists are banned from the tunnel.

2,188 m, the France–Italy border above Séez. Opened on the Italian side 22 May 2026, on the French side 24 May. The Chanousia garden opens only in July, €3 — not when the road opens.

Pass at 2,304 m between Courchevel and Méribel, reserved for bicycles: cars banned. 7 km on the Méribel side, 6.5 on the Courchevel side, a 23% wall.

Pass at 1,650 m between the Beaufortain and the Val d'Arly, commune of Hauteluce. Open all year: an inhabited resort, not a high pass that shuts for winter.

Upper Maurienne pass above a hydroelectric reservoir. Three published altitudes (2,081, 2,083, 2,085 m). Entirely in France since 1947, despite what you will read.

Pass at 1,968 m between the Beaufortain and the Tarentaise, on the D 925. No restaurant, no toilets at the top. The 2026 reopening was reported at two different times.

Pass at 1,533 m above the Maurienne, famous for the Lacets de Montvernier: 17 or 18 hairpins depending on the source. 14 km at 7.5% to the top.

Pass at 1,638 m above Albiez-Montrond, known for its 45 hairpins. A lake and a fountain at the top; no supervised swimming is documented.

Pass at 1,566 m between Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne and Valloire, open all year. The fort, ten minutes' walk away, opens in summer only, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Pass at 1,924 m between the Isère and the Savoie, 2.5 km from the Croix de Fer. In 2026, access from Saint-Colomban-des-Villards did not open before 19 June.

Summit at 1,930 m above Les Saisies. The 2016 Tour de France stopped at 1,723 m, at the resort, not the Signal. Two sides: 14.35 km or 4.35 km.

Beaufortain pass at 2,107 m. The tarmac stops at Pichu: the last 3.2 km are a track at 8-9%. Not to be confused with the Cormet de Roselend.
